When: Saturday, September 20

Please arrive at the West Butte trailhead between 9:45AM and 10AM. We will begin our hike promptly at 10AM.

About the class:  Discover the joy of combining outdoor adventure with artistic expression on this group hike and painting session at the Butte. Please note participants are responsible for providing their own painting supplies for this course.

Join the Revel crew for a moderately challenging 3-mile hike on the Butte (1.5 miles out, 1.5 miles back). At the summit, Alaska artist Sandy McDermott will discuss how views of the Matanuska Valley, Knik Glacier, and surrounding peaks can inspire your creativity.

During the lesson, Sandy will guide participants through the basics of field sketching and watercolor painting. Using portable art materials, you’ll learn easy, expressive techniques for capturing the unique light, colors, and textures of the landscape.

**This course is weather-dependent. We will make a weather call the evening before our course date based on the anticipated forecast for the Butte area.**

Total workshop time is approximately 3-4 hours. This course is best suited for adult learners and teenagers.

Group size: Maximum 10 learners total

Course fees:

  • $55 per person

  • $45 per person for Adventure Club Members
