Frequently asked questions

Why go with a guide service?

The value of going with a guide service is the connection we can offer you to our community. Going with a local guide provides opportunities to learn about the area, hear our town's stories and history, understand how we live in Alaska, and more. Whether you book with Revel or another guide service, it's good practice to ensure your trip operator is permitted and insured to guide in the areas you intend to visit.

What else is there to do in Palmer, Alaska?

Palmer has year-round access to various outdoor recreational opportunities, including hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, glacier trips, flight-seeing tours, snow machining, and cross-country skiing. Situated between the Chugach Mountains and the Talkeetna Mountains, Palmer sits in a glacial valley. Our quaint downtown has a small bookstore, coffee shops and restaurants, and community organizations like the Palmer Chamber of Commerce put on events throughout the year.

If your travel time is limited, we recommend Palmer as a day trip from Anchorage. If you have more flexibility, we recommend staying here for a few days or making the area your Alaska base camp for longer itineraries.

How does a small group hiking trip work?

Great question! Our small group hiking trips are a maximum of 5 people. If you travel solo and purchase a seat on one of our group trips, you may be with up to 4 other hikers. On the day of our trip, we'll meet at our pickup point and learn about everyone's trip goals. From there, we'll pick our hiking location and venture out for the activity.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my scheduled trip?

We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Alaska's climate is dynamic, and we carry gear for the elements. Please reach out if you have concerns about the weather or our cancellation policy.

What do you mean by low, medium, and high-impact adventures?

  • Low impact - mostly driving with some light walking across primarily flat terrain. An excellent option for folks with limited mobility or who prefer a more casual adventure. A low-impact trip generally takes maximum walking or being on your feet for two hours.

  • Medium impact - hiking and walking an estimated 3 to 5 miles across uneven terrain. Or hiking a short distance over challenging terrain. An excellent choice for moderately active adventurers.

  • High impact - a more challenging one that may cover more ground (>5 miles) or includes significantly tricky terrain. This option is not for the faint of heart.

Is food included in the trip?

Snacks are included in all our trips.
