Community Hike: sponsored by Now Health

  • Pioneer Peak Trail East Knik River Road Knik River, AK United States (map)

Registration required. There is no cost to join us, but we do ask you sign up so we don’t leave any stragglers behind at the trailhead! This event has been made possible by Now Health.

When: Thursday, June 19 at 8:30AM.

Please arrive at the trailhead between 8:15AM and 8:30AM. We will begin our hike promptly at 8:30AM.

Where: We will meet at the Pioneer Peak Trailhead.

What to expect: Towering over the Matanuska and Knik valleys, Pioneer Peak is the Palmer’s most prominent mountain. On this hike, we will climb about 2,100 feet to the first picnic table, located about 2.5 miles up the mountain. From here, if conditions permit, we will see Knik Glacier off in the distance as well as wide, vast views of the Knik River, Matanuska Valley, and Talkeetna Mountains in the distance. We will rest here and take in the sights before heading back down the mountain.

This trail is a Mat-Su Borough trailhead. Participants are responsible for paying applicable parking fees if they do not have an annual Mat-Su Borough parking pass. Annual permits can easily be purchased online here or by visiting the Borough office in downtown Palmer.

🥾 Mileage: Approximately 5 miles (2.5 miles to the first picnic table and 2.5 miles return)

🥾 Elevation Gain: About 2,100 feet

🥾 Estimated Hiking Time: About 5 hours

Can I bring my pup? No. We ask you leave pups behind for this event. Thanks for understanding.

Cost: This is a free community event. Thank you, Now Health!

A couple other notes: If you need help finding the trailhead or want to contact Revel prior to the event, please contact the team at 907-903-1664.

What to bring:

  • Comfortable tennis/trail shoes or hiking boots

  • Warm gear (hats, mittens, scarves)

  • Rain gear

  • Water and snacks as desired

A note on flexibility: The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the itinerary as outlined, but we may need to shift plans for a variety of reasons. Safety is our priority and we use our best judgment when making trip adjustments.

Trip minimums: We require a minimum of 2 registered participants to run our community trips. In the event we do not meet our trip minimum, your guide will call you the evening prior to our trip departure.

Weather: We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Please bring gear to adventure in the elements. If you need to borrow something, let us know! We have lots of extra supplies and are happy to loan items out if needed.

Will I summit? Revel makes no guarantees that individuals or our group will summit during these adventures. It’s a great goal, but safety remains our top priority. The nature of recreating in Alaska requires flexibility. Weather, wildlife, terrain, injury, etc. can all warrant a shift in plans. Please join our adventures with an open mind.
