What is Winter Discovery Day?

Winter Discovery Day is a half-day event designed to connect locals to winter recreation opportunities and resources in the valley. The main staging area for activities will be at Hatcher Pass and Government Peak Recreation Area (GPRA). We are partnering with local businesses and nonprofits to offer a variety of activities (snowshoeing, xc skiing, sledding, avalanche preparedness activities, and hot chocolate) at different trailheads. 

Please note parking fees apply. Government Peak Recreation Area (GPRA) is a Mat-Su Borough maintained trailhead.

Is registration required? No. This is a free event, visit every trailhead or stop at one you’re interested in. Day use parking fees apply to trailheads visited.

About the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation (MSTPF): Since 2014, your local trails and parks resource -the MSTPF- has awarded over $2.3 million in grants to local organizations. These grants have facilitated trail-building, trails and parks maintenance and related infrastructure investments in the Mat-Su Borough. Both motorized and non-motorized trail users have benefitted from MSTPF investments.

Revel is a Palmer-based guiding company that emphasizes community, education, and connection to places for visitors and locals alike. We operate year-round trips for visitors and use tourism to create opportunities for locals to learn and connect with the outdoors.
