Revel Field Trips are small-group, guided adventures that explore local trails by foot, bike, or boat.

  • Paddling in the Mat-Su Valley

    Hike, Paddle & Pizza: Mat. Lake on May 31

    * Out-and-back hike followed by an evening paddle

    * Difficulty: Easy to moderate for most adventurers

    * Distance: 3-mile hike/about 1.5-2 hours of paddling

    Join us for an evening adventure at Matanuska Lake State Rec Area. We’ll start with a guided hike with the Revel team and then head out for a paddle with Adventures by True North AK. All gear supplied!

    We’ll wrap up our trip with pizza in the pavilion.

  • Crevasse Moraine trails in the Mat-Su

    Crevasse Moraine to Matanuska Lake on June 8

    * One-way hike with return transportation

    * Difficulty: Easy to moderate for most hikers

    * Distance: Approx. 5.5 miles

    Kick off summer with this route that winds through the Crevasse-Moraine trail system, skirts around part of Long Lake, and ends at the Matanuska Lakes State Recreation Area. The easy rolling hills (ancient glacial moraines) of the Matanuska Greenbelt weave through birch, spruce, and cottonwood forests.

  • Hikers on the Rail Trail outside of Palmer, Alaska

    Rail Trail: Palmer Trailhead to Moose Creek on June 14

    * One-way hike with return transportation

    * Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous for most hikers

    * Distance: Approx. 7 miles

    Follow a historic railroad bed along the edge of the mighty Matanuska River from Palmer to Moose Creek. The terrain is mostly level with several short sections of gravel slides to cross.

  • Muktuk Marston Trail in Chugach State Park

    Arctic Valley to Eagle River via Muktuk Marston on June 22

    * One-way hike with return transportation

    * Difficulty: Moderate for most hikers

    * Distance: Approx. 5 miles

    Join us to hike the Muktuk Marston trail leading from Arctic Valley to Hunter Pass above Hiland Valley, and down to the trailhead at the South Fork of Eagle River. Alpine wildflowers are in full bloom this time of year! We’ll be above tree line with some gradual elevation gain and loss, then gradual switchbacks to descend near the end.

  • April Bowl to Government Peak traverse

    April Bowl to Government Peak Rec Area on July 13

    * One-way hike with a trailhead shuttle

    * Difficulty: Strenuous for most hikers

    * Distance: Approx. 7 miles

    This challenging hike follows a narrow path from Hatcher Pass Summit (April Bowl) to the top of Government Peak to Government Peak Recreation Area, descending via the Blueberry Knoll trail. On this trek, expect exposed ridges that can be windy, with elevation gain of about 2,000 feet, followed by elevation loss of about 3,500 feet on a steep, well-established trail.

  • A biker peddling around Eklutna Lake in Chugach State Park

    Bike Eklutna Lakeside Trail on July 24

    * Out-and-back bike ride

    * Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous for most bikers

    * Distance: Approx. 15 miles

    Biking the Eklutna lakeshore trail is a rite of passage for Alaskan adventurers! We’ll plan to pedal from the day-use parking lot to Bold Airstrip at the far end of the lake and back. Packed gravel and dirt with small rolling hills and sections of dirt road means you’ll need tires with good traction - a mountain, gravel, or fat bike is required for this outing.   • Denali views in Denali State Park

    Paddle & Hike: Weekend Adventure in Denali State Park, August 15/16

    * Half-day paddle + full day hike

    * Difficulty: Moderate for most adventurers

    * Distance: half-day paddle/7-mile hike

    This two-day adventure includes paddling and hiking at two locations in Denali State Park – Byers Lake and Curry Ridge. On day 1, we’ll canoe around Byers Lake and visit a unique, historic cabin along its shore. Participants can camp or arrange other lodgings for that night. On day 2, we’ll hike from Kesugi Ken up to Curry Ridge for views (weather permitting) of Denali and the Alaska Range. Fall colors should be peaking.

  • Red Shirt Lake in Willow, Alaska with views of the Chugach Mountains

    Hike to Red Shirt Lake on Sept. 4

    * Out-and-back hike with transportation

    * Difficulty: Moderate for most hikers

    * Distance: Approx. 6 miles

    Join us for a forested hike from South Rolly Lake to Red Shirt Lake and back along ancient glacial moraine in Nancy Lake State Recreation Area. We’ll stay together as a group; hike at a leisurely pace; enjoy the fall colors; and stop to identify plants, listen and look for birds, and chat.

What’s Included in Each Revel Field Trip:

  • Local guide(s) with (at minimum) Wilderness First Responder training

  • Parking + permit fees (unless you meet us at the trailhead in your vehicle)

  • Trekking poles (available upon request)

  • An educational component. Each field trip incorporates a fun learning component - from history to flora and fauna, we’ll make sure you’re learning along the trail.

  • Special treat from a local bakery
