Bike GPRA

  • The Chalet at Government Peak Recreation Area (map)

Adventure Club members can attend this event as one of your free monthly adventures

When: Tuesday, August 5, 2025

Time: 5:45PM-9PM (approximate end time)

Please arrive at the trailhead between 5:45PM and 6PM. We will begin our ride promptly at 6PM.

Where: We will meet at GPRA (near the chalet).

About the ride and what to expect: We will ride at a leisurely pace and stick together as a group. Bikers can plan to stop for water and snack breaks as well as photo and educational opportunities. We’ll climb and descend narrow dirt singletrack trails through boreal forest and open meadows at the base of the Talkeetna mountains. A mountain, gravel, or fat-tire bike with good traction is required. Some mountain biking experience is recommended, as there are roots and rocks along the way.

  • Difficulty: moderate to strenuous for most people

  • Mileage: Approximately 4 miles

  • Elevation Gain: About 400 feet

  • Estimated Biking Time: About 2-3 hours

Bike fees:

  • Adventure Club members may attend this event as part of their 1 or 2 free, monthly events. Learn about the club here.

  • First-time attendees may attend this event for free. When you register, please select “first-timer.”

  • For all other guests, $19 to join this event. If you are interested in a scholarship, please complete our scholarship form below. Your bike fees help cover guide wages, insurance, and our permitting fees.

Parking: GPRA requires a MatSu parking pass or daily parking fee.

Can I bring my pup? No. For this particular event, we ask folks to leave pups behind. Thanks for understanding!

What to bring:

  • Bike helmet (required)

  • Daypack

  • Clothing layers

  • Long pants for riding beside brush

  • Rain gear (recommended)

  • Water and snacks as desired

A note on flexibility: The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the itinerary as outlined, but we may need to shift plans for a variety of reasons. Safety is our priority, and we use our best judgment when making trip adjustments.

Trip minimums: We require a minimum of 2 registered participants to run our community adventures. If a scheduled event is canceled due to low sign-ups, participants will receive a full refund or credit towards a future event. Adventure Club members can receive a credit towards future Revel events.

Weather: We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Please bring gear to adventure in the elements. If you need to borrow something, let us know! We have lots of extra supplies and are happy to loan items out.
